About the Artist
Elena Roznovan is currently a student in California State University, Long Beach’s School of Arts with the emphasis in Sculpture / 4D. Elena loves to write, take photos, and take videos. Elena has always been intrigued with light and space. While working on her pieces, Elena loves to travel and take pictures that capture the beauty of sunrises and sunsets, especially in the deserts. One reasons why she enjoys the deserts is because it is very secluded and she can focus on capturing the beauty of the skies without distractions from other individuals or objects. Currently, Elena has been to Death Valley approximately ten times to shoot her magnificent art pieces.
Elena’s piece consists of a twelve minute video that captures the sunrise and sunset that takes place at the desert. In addition, she utilizes multiple polarized screens that are placed at different locations. The screens consisted of different sizes and were either hung or leaned on the wall that was used to project the scenery. In addition, there is also a bench for individuals to sit and observe the scenic beauty of the video.
Within Elena’s artwork, she wants to investigate the concept of phenomenology, time, and the way images are constructed. She utilizes polarized transparencies to create images that comment on the way how pictures are created and how many photographers use them to reduce the amount of glare. She also stated how individuals are so busy within their lives and sometimes they should escape their busy lives and just enjoy the scenic beauty of nature during sunrises and sunsets.
Overall, I really enjoyed the art exhibit because I really like how it felt like I was able to escape my busy life temporarily and just admire the beauty of nature. Within our lives, we are often too busy to drop everything we are doing and just enjoy the simple things in life. Also, I really admire Elena’s video skills because I also like to take videos and pictures; however, I am no where as good as Elena. The way she sets up the screens and the angle she takes her videos are indescribable. I wish I had more time to talk to Elena so that I could ask her for some advice.
